Tomorrow is finally my last day of school for the year!! I am ready to be done and call myself a junior in college. It is so crazy to think that I am half ways done. I have two huge finals tomorrow, one at 8am and the other at 10am. I am pretty stressed out right now and can't wait till its all over. Sleep will be very minimal tonight as I am having problems focusing on what I need to finish and study. I thought I would write one last post and hope everyone has a great summer! Take care!

Tests, Tests, and More Tests!!
The week we look forward to yet hope never comes. The week of finals is finally here and I am ready to be done but at the same time I do not want to study. It is so hard being inside studying when the weather is so nice and I could be out there doing something constructive. This week has already started off stressful and it is just beginning. I had my first test today and I feel pretty good about it. I have two tests tomorrow in which I will be studying a lot tonight. The part that is very hard is when the teacher assigns a take home test along with a final. Studying time for the actual final is then limited. My lasts tests are on Thursday morning and I will be out of here! It is very scary to think about almost being half done with my undergraduate degree. Time has flown by so fast! Before I know it I will be off at graduate school and off into the real world! Yikes....Let's not think about that! Just think...17 more weeks till the next semester starts.....Happy Summer!

Track Winding Down
Hey guys!
Track season is coming to an end as we just had our conference meet this past Saturday. The girls side ended up placing 8th overall so that was a huge accomplishment. We had a good showing with a lot of athletes coming to perform. We currently only have one girl qualified for nationals but I am working to qualify as well. I was .13 off of qualifying on Saturday so am running a last chance meet this Thursday to see if I can still qualify. Nationals will be held in Saint Louis Missouri at the end of May. Our guys side is in the rebuilding stages and hopefully we will have more numbers next year. There is currently also have one guy qualified so we will have to wait and see how that turns out.
It is finally nice outside so hopefully we can get another good track day on Thursday to run.
That's all for now!!

It't Been Awhile
Sorry I have not written in awhile. I have been super busy these past two weeks. With track meets getting rescheduled and school coming to an end, my days are very limited and I need to get the most out of each day here. An hour break means I need to work on a project or presentation for sometime during the week.
The time has finally come and the Siouxland Conference is tomorrow. My presentation is done but I need to practice and touch up a few minor details. It will be interesting to see what all of the other students did their research on and how different everyone presents their findings. The conference runs from 8am till 4pm so it will be a very long day for me.
After the conference gets over I'll be heading over to our new track at the high school to help out with a track meet there. The Mount Marty Track team helps with a couple of their meets and then when we have our meet they will help us out. It isn't to bad because you get to see high school athletes perform again and sometimes those are the girls you used to run against.
On Friday is our last meet before our conference meet. We will be traveling to Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota. We already have one person qualified to go to the national outdoor meet and are hoping to get a couple more at this meet. Lets hope for some sunshine and no wind:)
On Saturday night is our Spring Formal which is held at the Kelly Inn. It should be a fun event and I am excited that I don't have any conflicts with it. In the past I have had a track meet on that day so it will be nice to just enjoy the day and get ready with the girls. Kind of like prom all over again!
Well that is all for now. I will try to get a couple more posts in after this weekend with how everything turned out. Take care!

First Track Meet
Last Saturday was Mount Marty's first track meet where weather allowed us to run. The bus left at 7:45 to travel to Wayne State University. With six teams there altogether, it was a small meet where everyone placed very well.
My first event was the 4x1 relay. We usually do not run this event but thought it would be fun to put a team together. Even though we did not place it was a fun race and got our legs warmed up and ready to run our other events.
A couple of hours later, with the wind still blowing hard, 400 hurdles was my next event. I knew the last 100 of the race was going to be hard so I made sure to push it my first 300. I ran very well posting a time of 68.1 close to my personal best. I ended up 4th overall in the event. I has very happy with this time for the very first meet.
My last event, the 4x4, was only an hour after my hurdles but I recovered and was ready to run. Our team did alright not running our best time but it was good to get outside and run in a meet so we knew what we had to improve on.
Overall, the meet was very successful and everyone came out ready to run. I hope we can get some decent weather to run in within the next couple of weeks. Chance of snow at the end of this week! I can't believe we are expected to get snow in April!
Until next time,
Carly

SNOW DAY:)
Hello again! Waking up Monday morning brought me a lot of joy. Not because another week was starting but because it was our first snow day. I really could have done without the snow at the end of March but it made for a nice day of sitting around and enjoying one more day off. Even though it was a snow day sports still go on. After playing some volleyball, and running my track workout around the gym, I accomplished some homework as well. The day went by so fast but I'll take one of those any day. Just a good day to relax and get some stuff done.
That's all for now. I'll be writing again sometime this week.

Research Project
As I have mentioned in an earlier post I am taking Experimental Methods II a class required for my Psychology major. In this class we are required to do a research project that we present at the Siouxland Undergraduate Social Sciences Research Conference. This is a very large part of our grade and is also a lot of work.
When I was spending a week with my brother in Arizona I thought it would be a good time to get my project started by doing a survey on why people travel South for the winter. When I arrived back in South Dakota I then surveyed people on why they stay North for the winter. This is only the beginning to my project but is something I have been working on a lot this past week.
I will keep you updated with how my project is going and the work I am putting into it in the next couple weeks before the conference. I better get back to studying for my test tomorrow! Until next time,
Carly

Easter Break Approaching
The week is flying by and I am looking forward to Easter Break. It will be a good time to get away from all the stress here at school. Most of my Easter Break however will probably be spent doing papers or homework along with trying to keep up with my track workouts.
Over break I am going to be working on two big projects. For Experimental Methods II I am doing a huge reseach project that I will "get" to present at a conference in April. I am doing my project on Snowbirds and Stayers. If you don't know what that means, while I was down in Arizona for Spring Break, I surveyed people on why they go South for the winter. So when I am back home for Easter I am going to survey people why they stay North for the winter. After I get all of my data I will compare and do different tests to make up a research project. I want to try to get a lot of it done so I don't have to stress the night before. The second project I am going to be working on is a paper for Introduction to Alcoholism. My topic is "Alcohol Prevention Among Teens" I thought this topic would be very intersting to research and find facts on since I have just lived the teenage years recently. I am sure a lot of it will shock me on how much alcohol is being consumed by teenagers now days but I feel it is a subject that needs to be addressed.
I am really looking forward to Thursday when I will be at home with some awesome home cooked meals. Until later.....

Lancer Track
Hey again! The weather is starting to get nice and that is awesome news to me. Outdoor track season has begun which means my life is starting to get busy with the end of the semester getting closer and closer.
This is about the time of the year where the due dates for every paper, project or large assignment are coming up. For me, I have a lot of papers due but hope to use my Easter break to get at least one of them done. I try to keep ahead as much as I can by organizing and keeping a planner. Since I have a track meet pretty much every weekend, I spend more time during the week to get my homework done.
Track is a sport that is very flexible and easy to work around your schedule. Since it is not a sport that you must practice with the whole team, as long as you get your workouts in everything runs pretty smooth. In track I run the 400 meter hurdles, sometimes an open event ranging from a 200-800 and then the 4x4 relay.
Our new outdoor track was just finished this last month making workouts a lot more fun. With a new facility, I think our track team will see a lot more results when the meets come around. We are really happy to have the new track and a place to practice.
That is all for now about track. I'll keep you posted with how track is going.

Spring Break Cont.
Spring break is winding down and I leave to come back to the cold South Dakota weather tomorrow. :( While visiting Arizona I had a chance to visit the University of Arizona campus and was very interested in what I noticed. The huge campus was the complete opposite of Mount Marty. It was never ending and everyone you passed didn't say hello like at Mount Marty. At our campus, everyone for the most part knows everyone and always passes you with a smile and or a hello. At the U of A campus I felt just like a single person, not like anyone even cared that I was walking on the same sidewalk as them. After walking around the campus, I knew that I had made the right decision to attend a smaller sized college. I feel Mount Marty is the right fit for me with the size, athletics, student and teacher relationships and the family away from home feel. I do not feel that I could get any of this at a very large campus where the size of one class is equal to our whole campus. I am glad I made my decision to attend Mount Marty College to obtain my bachelors degree. In the future for graduate school I have a larger college in mind just for the experience but I know that Mount Marty is the right place for me right now.

Spring Break
After a super hectic week last week it is finally Spring Break! This year for break I am going down South to Arizona to see my brother and his wife. I am very excited to get away from school and this cold weather. Even though I am away from school, the work never stops. I have a couple big projects I am going to work on so not everything piles up on me once I am back. But I am going to go outside and enjoy the nice weather!

My Not So "Off Days"
While at school, typically Tuesdays and Thursdays are most student's slack days, but not for me. I am going, going, going all day long both days.
Tuesdays and Thursdays usually start off at around 9:15 when my alarm sounds. After hitting the snooze a couple of times I am finally up and adam for my 10:00 clock class called Experimental Methods II. This is a required class for my psychology major in which we learn learn about research methods. Since this is a four credit class and lecture is only two days, it is a longer class and lasts till 11:45. By this time I am very anxious and ready for lunch.
On Thursdays I have an extra class than on Tuesdays which is at 1:00-2:00. Elementary Stats is a class that is four days a week. So during that time on Tuesdays I spend an hour at work study so my time is filled.
When 2:30 rolls around I am off to my last class of the day, Introduction to Alcoholism. I know this may sound like a funny class to be taken but is an elective for my major. More on the class in later blogs.
After my day of class you can usually find me down in the gym running. I can not wait till it finally gets nice outside so we aren't stuck inside running. By the time I am done with practice it is time for supper.
I usually spend a couple of hours after supper devoted just to homework alone that way I can spend a couple hours messing around relaxing before it is time to call it a night.
This is an example of what my Tuesday and Thursday schedule looks like though most students have less classes and some none at all. Since many do not have classes these are good days to get some hours in at work study or catch up on homework. That is all for my Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I'll be writing again soon!

A Typical Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Hello everyone! I am very new to blogging but hope to figure everything out here in the next couple of days. I will try to keep this page updated and current so you can see what an average college student goes through.
My mornings usually involve a little time of relaxation before starting the day off. The alarm usually sounds at around 8:15 giving me just enough time to make it to my nine o'clock class on time. After getting ready, making a quick list of what the day entails, and a quick bowl of cereal I am on my way to my first class of the day, Abnormal Psychology. After the hour class, I am headed off to my workstudy. I am positioned in the Business Department where I help out one of the professors in any way possible. From correcting papers to making copies I am just there to assist him in any way. I usually spend about an hour at workstudy.
At 11:15 it is time for dinner. With so many options in the dining hall, there is always something to pick from also another thing I will hit on later on in my posts.
From 1-1:50 I have one of my biggest classes of the semester called Elementary Statistics. Since it is a requirement for many majors it is a large class. Since I am not very fond of math, I was a little scared for what the class would be like but it is interesting and the teacher is very helpful and understanding.
From 2-2:50 I have one of my most interesting classes called Psychology for the Exceptional Individual. It is one of my favorites because we are learning how to work with sign language. This class period goes by extremely fast and before I know it I am heading off to practice.
During the Fall I participate in volleyball but now in the Spring I run track here at Mount Marty. After practice and supper is "homework time." I try to get all of my studies done at a fairly decent time leaving some time just to sit and relax.
Always on the run, if there is any type of sporting event on campus you can usually find me at it. Other than that, I enjoy staying busy and will keep you informed with how everything is going in the next couple of days.
